Customs Brokerage

Customs Brokerage

Proper entry of merchandise to Customs and participating government agencies is key for an importer’s supply chain. Run afoul of these agencies and goods will get delayed, penalized or could even be denied admission to the country. Getting it here may be the easy part – getting it classified correctly is critical.

At the core of Camelot’s DNA, we’re Customs brokers. We have five licensed Customs brokers on staff and a total of six Certified Classification Specialists. This means that when we take on a new importer or when our customers are looking to bring in new items, we painstakingly review the classifications for correctness, potential PGA exposure, ADD/CVD liability and whether or not they’re permitted to claim duty relief as part of a trade program.

What happens if we find mistakes from a previous Customs broker? Working with counsel and with an importer, we develop a strategy to either make a voluntary disclosure in the case of a duty shortfall or to protest previous entries and try to secure a refund. We have a page of Case Studies dedicated to some of our classification challenges and victories that returned significant dollars to our clients’ bottom lines.

CTPAT

CTPAT

Managed by Customs and Border Protection, CTPAT is designed to prevent the introduction of an unauthorized device that could cause harm.

Importers who are certified and validated members of CTPAT and who work with CTPAT freight forwarders, Customs brokers and carriers see an aggregated benefit and reduced risk scoring when their goods are reviewed for entry.

CTPAT asks companies to look at facility, technology and employee security both in the United States and at factories and consolidation points abroad. CBP audits and revalidates CTPAT companies in America and overseas for compliance every four years.

Cargo Insurance Coverage

Cargo Insurance Coverage

We ensure our homes, our vehicles and our belongings against loss or damage, why wouldn’t we do the same for cargo?

If it is because we believe the carrier who has custody of our cargo will reimburse for a loss, think again. Each individual carrier has their own limitation of liability that is far less than the value of an average shipment.

Ocean carriers $500.00 Per package
Truckers $50.00 Per shipment
Airlines Approx. $20.00 Per kilogram

Import Ocean Freight Forwarding

Import Ocean Freight Forwarding

Camelot is licensed to contract and secure rates and space for ocean cargo into and out of the United States. Holding this FMC license is mandatory, and the first question a shipper should ask of a potential freight forwarder. With this license, we can approach any carrier to sign a time/volume contract, giving us access to rates and space for a period of time.

Sorting price highest to lowest in a spreadsheet may seem like the easiest way to compare service providers, but there are many more data points to consider before making a final decision. Factors like departure frequencies, equipment availability, reliability, transit time and transshipment points are but a few of the additional items shippers should consider when selecting a routing for their cargo.
