Case Study
| Fact: | Customs will never tell importers they are paying too
much duty, but they will pursue action to collect if they
are not paying enough. |
| Situation: | Camelot asked a new client who imports if it was sure
that the classification and rate of duty were correct. The
response was that this was the tariff number which had
always been used, so it must be correct. |
| Action: | We believed that the merchandise could be classified
elsewhere at a lower rate of duty and asked the client to
provide us with a sample of the item which we sent to the
Customs laboratory to confirm our hypothesis. |
| Result: | The new client has received its first batch of refunds
totaling over $48,000.00. |
